Men's Intermediate Round 3

19 May 2014 by Diarmaid Gallagher

Friday night saw Western Shamrocks take on Morley Gales in the 3rd and final game of Round 1 of the Intermediate League. With Shamrocks looking to get off the mark with their first win, spirits were good with numbers increasing and some key players back in the fold.

Morley started the stronger of the 2 with and early goal that saw them leading the shams 1-02 to 0-01 after 15min. The teams went score for score for the next 5min until Shamrocks hit a good spell to strike the last 4 points of the half unanswered and go in at the break trailing 1-04 to 0-05. With a strong bench things looked strong for the Shams at half time.

Morley once again restarted very strong hitting 1-02 without reply in the first 10min. Shamrocks replied with a goal and a point from play but Morley weren’t finished and blasted a 3 goal to the Shamrocks goal to stretch the lead out to 6 points. Shamrocks were determined and never to give up tagged on a few more scores but it was too little too late. Morley eventually ran out winners on a score line of 3-09 to 1-10.

A tough night for the Shams but with a lot of lads back to full training things are looking up. Good performance on the night from the team but unfortunately goals win games. Shamrocks kick off round 2 this weekend against St. Finbarrs and hope to start with a win, everyone get down to Tom Bateman and give the lads some support.
