Western Shamrocks V Southern Districts

Full-Time Score:
Western Shamrocks 1-12
Southern Districts 2-04

Coming off the back of their first win of the season, Shamrocks were keen to make it back-to-back victories with a win over rivals Southern Districts. The game was fixed for 8:00pm Friday night under lights and was sure to be a tough encounter with Districts taking the spoils earlier in the season.

The first half was touch and go with both sets of forwards looking sharp. Shamrocks were making some great moves through the centre with Chris Hayes and Kevin Boyle making some strong runs. The Districts defense was strong however and did a good job to limit the Shams scoring opportunities. Both teams traded scores but with Districts finding the net, this led to them going in at the break 3 points to the better.

The second half was looking promising for the Shams with a strong wind behind them. The Shams came out fighting with a few early scores but against the run of play, Districts were to find the net once more. This certainly put Shamrocks on the back foot. But as has been the story all season, Shamrocks determination kept them in touch and with a goal from Kerry man Johnny Daughton Shamrocks were back in it. As Shamrocks kept the pressure on and upped the intensity the gap began to widen. Shamrocks held Districts to only one score in the second half, which ultimately led to them running out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 1-12 to 2-04.

Once again, Shamrocks showed great determination and drive to push on in the second half. Good performance on the night from Paddy McCabe, Kevin Boyle, Adrian Byrne and Johnny Daughton.

Shamrocks next game is this Sunday against Morley in Tom Bateman.
