Men’s Intermediate Round 6

16 Jun 2014 by Diarmaid Gallagher

Western Shamrocks V Morley Gales

Full-Time Score:
Western Shamrocks 3-10
Morley Gaels 6-14

With 2 wins back to back in this round, Shamrocks were keen to make it a clean sheet. With a strong starting 15 and an experienced bench the shams looked good for another win although Morley weren’t going to give it up that easy.

From the throw-in both teams seemed up for it with some great plays and some big hits going in from both teams. The shams showed some great movement and potential in attack with some great scores from play. Morley however seemed to perfect the overlap and counter attack early on which had devastating effect. The shams attack was working well and return of 2-07 in one half of play would have any team happy at half-time. However, the pressure from Morley put them through for 5 goals in the first half alone. The teams retired at half time to respective managers for the wise words on a score line of:

Western Shamrocks 2-07
Morley Gaels 5-05

Although the scoreboard told a different story at half time, Shamrocks went out with high spirits at the starts of the second half and yet again some great attacking play from the men in green was putting pressure on the Morley defence but it was a hard line to break down and therefore limited the shams scoring opportunities greatly. Some sloppy tackling handed the opponents some scoreable frees in the second half which only added to the half time lead and although Shamrocks hit the net themselves in the second half, the potency of the Morley attack held off any chance of a comeback. Morley were to ecentually run out comfortable winners on a Scoreline of:

Western Shamrocks 3-10
Morley Gaels 6-14

There aren’t many games that you’ll lose with a tally of 3-10 but unfortunately for the Shams, this was one of them. Strong performances on the night from Diarmaid Flannagan, Carlos Mc Elhinney, and Paddy Sweeney. With St. Finnbars up next as the opening Fixture of Round 3, the Shams will be looking to bounce back from this defeat and try to keep the season alive. Next game is Sunday 22nd June @ 9:30am in Tome Bateman.
